Team roles and permissions

Last updated 16 August 2026

Every project has exactly one owner — whoever created it — plus any number of managers and testers. All three are on the project; only the first two can change anything about it.

Who can do what

ActionOwnerManagerTester
View and install any build
Leave feedback
Upload new builds
Invite and remove testers
Set or clear a link password
Extend, pin or delete builds
Promote or demote members
Delete the project

Testers can also register a device UDID for ad-hoc iOS builds, and remove themselves from a project at any time.

The owner can’t be changed

There is always exactly one, and the role can never be reassigned or removed — a project needs someone who can act on it.

Promoting someone to manager

There’s no separate “invite as manager” flow. Everyone starts as a tester.

Invite them as a tester

The normal invite flow — email address, they accept.

Open the project's Team panel

In the web dashboard, signed in as the owner.

Promote them

One click. Demoting them back to tester works the same way. The mobile app can show who holds which role, but has no controls to change one.

Manager seats are limited by plan

The owner takes up one of their own manager seats, so a free project (1 seat) can’t promote anyone until you demote the existing manager or upgrade to Pro, which raises the ceiling to 5 managers per project.
